Ed Byrne does an interview in his undies

comedy It’s an occupational hazard of having a late-night job with the occasional early morning call – but Ed Byrne almost missed his scheduled interview with Chris Moyles on Radio X this morning.

The comic admitted he overslept, with his alarm failing to go off. But he did eventually set up the Zoom call, even if he didn’t quite have time to get the microphone working property – or even put on trousers, as he demonstrated to anyone watching the show’s video stream.

He insisted he set an alarm on his ‘well-known brand of phone, by a company that also sounds like the name of a fruit’ – joking: ‘Imagine if I was trying to hint that I still use a Blackberry.’ But while the alarm technically went off, no sound came out.

Byrne said he was also expecting his wife Claire might have woken him up, prompting Morris to conclude: ‘Oh, she’s clearly not a fan of the show then! "Oh, you’ve got to be up for Chris’s show? It’s not that important, I’ll let him have a lie-in".

Byrne then said: ‘I want to show you just how last minute, and I’m barely on time – well, I’m not on time – but just how… Look. I’m still in my pants! I’m not even wearing trousers right now.’

And he stood up to show the camera.

‘It really is like lockdown all over again,’ Morris said, with Byrne jokingL ‘Be honest, Chris. You’re also still in your pants’

‘We all are, Ed,’ said Moyles’s sidekick Dominic Byrne – before Moyles added: ‘Ed, I’m not even wearing pants!’
