Joe Lycett announces he's become a father

Mummy becomes a daddy

comedyJoe Lycett has announced that he has become a father to a baby boy.

However, given the comedian’s history of pranks not all his fans have taken the news at face value.’

Posting an image of himself cradling a child on Instagram, the comic said:’"An appreciation post from me for the extraordinary @bham_womens hospital. My first encounter with them was years ago when they looked after a al of mine through surgery, and then most recently when they masterfully welcomed a little boy into the world, who happens to be my son.

‘The care and compassion his mum and he received was exceptional; from the antenatal classes, incredible midwives, consultants, doctors, nurses and the ongoing care in the community. We also loved their baked potatoes. Birmingham is so lucky to have them and I will be forever grateful for everything they've done.’

And in reference to the Parenting Hell podcast hosted by Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe he added: ‘I am LOVING being a dad but sadly I think this now means I can't get out of going on Rob and Josh's fucking podcast.’

‘We will not be taking any press requests about this as we have already sold the rights to the first family picture to Autotrader.’

The first comment was from Beckett, who said simply: ‘Let’s talk…’, while members of the Autotrader team also got in on the act, with its official account posting: 'We can't wait to publish the photos of Mini Cooper Lycett.'

Other comics to post their congratulations include Aisling Bea, Judi Love, Daisy May Cooper, Ellie Taylor  – and Paul Chuckle.

However one sceptical fan posted: ‘I’m just worried this will come out as him cuddling a bunch of rhubarb in a hat tbh.’

But the news seemed to be confirmed as genuine by the Birmingham Women’s Hospital, which posted: ‘Massive congratulations again to you all. We’re so proud to have supported you on this incredible life-changing milestone. We wish you all the best and lots of gorgeous cuddles for the future.’

Lycett, 36, keeps his personal life out of the media, aside from talking about his bisexuality.

On his TV show, Late Night Lycett, in April he said: ‘A lot has changed since the last series, I've got some news which is that I have a girlfriend. I've talked about being bisexual for years but people presume I'm homosexual based on my entire personality... yes I've got a girlfriend and people have been very nice about it.’

On podcast, the comedian – who often jokingly calls himself Mummy –  has spoken about his partner Denise, but admitted that’s not her real name ‘because she has a job that [means] she can't be in the public eye’.
