Matt Forde's bid to interview 650 election candidates

One from every constituency

Political comedian Matt Forde is attempting to interview a candidate from all 650 constituencies before polling day.

The comic’s podcast The Political Party is to return next week with daily episodes running up to the election on July 4.

To hit his target, he will have to interview more than 21 candidates in every show.

Producers Avalon said: ‘No interviewer has ever tried this during a single election campaign for a very simple reason: it’s ludicrous.’

Some interviews will be conducted remotely, while in-person encounters will take place on the campaign trail at venues that may include pubs, battle buses and army barracks.

The news comes as the comic returns to the stage tonight after having surgery to have the base of his spine removed after he was diagnosed with cancer.

He said: ‘I love interviewing politicians, so when the election was called, I thought I’d try and interview them all. After beating cancer, I need a new gruelling task. If politics is the art of the possible, then The Political Party is the art of the impossible.’

Forde will  perform five work-in-progress gigs at London’s Soho Theatre this week, ahead of a full run of his new show, The End of An Era Tour, at the Edinburgh Fringe in August

The Political Party will start releasing episodes daily from Monday.
