Alison Spittle joins EastEnders, playing a pregnant woman

comedy Irish comedian Alison Spittle joined the cast of EastEnders this week playing a heavily pregnant woman called Deborah.

But her announcement on social media confused fans and friends when she posted a picture of her with a bump captioned: ‘I’ve been keeping this a secret for a while.’

After followers congratulated her on the news she had to clarify: ‘I'm pregnant.... On EastEnders! I play Deborah and she's pregnant, not me. By the way it goes without saying thank you for your congratulations, I accept them still but for incubating a career as a soap star.’

Her character appeared in one scene on Monday night's episode when pregnant Whitney (Shona McGarty) and her partner  Zack (James Farrar) arrive for an appointment at the maternity unit.

And best gag about her role came from fellow comic Karen Hobbs, who joked that Spittle was ‘up the duf duf duf duf duf duf duf duf duf dufs.’

Fellow comedian and improviser Kathryn Bond also appeared in the storyline, which played out over two episodes,  playing a nurse called Lynsey.
