Seasons greetings from Joe Lycett
Joe Lycett has released his own range of Christmas cards – including one calling Father Christmas a ‘pedo’ – that sold out within hours. [UPDATE 31/10: Lycett has put some more on sale until midday on Wednesday November 2]
The comedian and artist – who has had his work displayed in the Royal Academy – has created a limited edition set of five colourful designs.
Others carry the slogans ‘gay pony’ for a reindeer, ’shit meat’ for turkey, ‘fart grenade’ for Christmas pudding and ‘more shower gel’ for an unopened gift.
And as you might expect from the sometime consumer champion, the project also has a message – and raises money for a good cause.
The stand-up explains: ‘When Paperchase went into administration in January 2021, they retained more than £7 million worth of stock. Since reopening under new ownership, they have been selling that stock without the original artists recouping their costs. Meanwhile, Paperchase have been bragging about their return to success.
‘In May 2021, the company’s then head of brand Sarah House said, "I’m really pleased to say that the sun has been shining on us and we’re currently trading above plan". Yet independent artists have lost thousands of pounds. Cheers for that, Sarah!’
Lycett announced the cards yesterday morning with a tweet and a message to his mailing list – but the £15 packs have already sold out via his website. Too late!
You can now purchase these charming Christmas cards I designed, with all profits going to artists who are owed money by @FromPaperchase https://t.co/Bfof2zuT3B pic.twitter.com/eQmtUSENOD
