Original Del Boy van up for auction
One of the original three-wheeled vans used in Only Fools And Horses is to be auctioned off.
The yellow Reliant Regal Supervan III is believed to be one of six used by the BBC during the comedy’s 22 yeas on air.
Made in 1972, the van's bodywork has been painted to appear scuffed and it has the familiar words 'New York, Paris, Peckham' and 'Trotters Independent Traders' on the side, while the interior is decked out in tasteful tiger-print.
Included in the sale is fluffy dice, a 'Tax in Post' sign in the windscreen, and a roof rack holding the Trotters’ market trader's suitcase. Plus there is also an inflatable doll paying homage to the 1989 Danger UXD episode in which Del Boy tryied to flog a batch of hooky blow-up sex dolls.
The van will be sold off by Silverstone Auctions of Ashorne, Warwickshire, in an online sale on March 5.
The auctioneers have not given the van an official estimate but others from the show have etched as much as £37,000.
They say the van is accompanied by some BBC headed paper along with a BBC key tag ‘suggesting that this one of the original vehicles built for the show’
And die-hard fans could even get the personalised number plate DEL 30Y, which is currently on sale on eBay with a £30,000 price tag, as Chortle reported earlier in the week.
• The red Fiat 500L from Peter Kay’s Car Share is being auctioned in aid of charity. The car is on sale on the trade-only Dealer Auction site, including the door that was knocked off in the final series signed by Kay, Sian Gibson and the crew. The car is owned by Yorkshire-based Piccadilly Motors, which had planned to sell it to the public for charity, before Covid forced it to use the wholesale website instead.
