Tina tells of rescuing a kayaker

Tina Fey has told how she saved a man's life, after she heard his cries for help in New York’s Hudson River.

The 30 Rock star called police after hearing his distress as she sat in the street drinking coffee earlier this year. 

‘I just hear something going "help",’ she told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show yesterday, adding that she  wasn't sure if was a person or a bird.

But she called police ‘and then we found out a couple of hours later that it was a guy who flipped a kayak in the Hudson and was floating. They found him a mile north in the river.

 ‘I saved a man's life. He doesn't know, but it was us.’

Fey also questioned why anyone would choose to kayak down the Hudson, joking: ‘It’s like a rat toilet!’
