The worst advice you can give an impressionist...
Rory Bremner recalls his stage nerves
It’s almost certainly the wrong reassurance to give to an impressionist.
But Rory Bremner has spoken about his stage fright – and the least helpful advice he received to combat it.
Speaking on the Making An Impression podcast, the satirist recalled having a sudden loss of confidence about his ability to mimic the Cabinet when he appeared on the Royal Variety Performance in 1986
‘My concentration just went. I had a blank moment,’ he said. And as he paced nervously backstage, one of the organisers noticed Bremner’s anxiety and told him: ‘Don’t worry - just go out there and be yourself.’
