Boris Johnson gets his ideas from Private Eye
Boris Johnson is not only beyond parody – he seems to be inspired by it.
Yesterday the Prime Minister said he would ‘rather be dead in a ditch’ than go back to Brussels to ask for a further delay to Brexit.
It came two weeks after Private Eye mocked the damaging dogmatism of Brexiteers with a spoof newspaper article headlined: ‘Exclusive Daily Telegraph poll reveals Britons would rather die face down in a ditch than trade with EU.’
The parody said the poll was taken from a wide cross-section of 15 executives on the Telegraph – the newspaper which just happened to have paid Johnson £275,000 a year to write a column before he became Prime Minister.
The satirical magazine was quick to tweet about the parallels, noting: ‘If you want to stay ahead of the news, subscribe to Private Eye.’
