New six-part travelogue

Griff Rhys Jones is filming a new documentary about great Australian railways.

The six-part series Griff Off the Rails: Down Under is being made for the ABC network down under.

The comic-turned-traveller said: ‘"It’s great to be back in Australia. It presents an opportunity I’ve never had before to explore every corner of this wonderful place and to get out into the wild areas that trains will take me to

‘This fascinating story will be told about the way Australia built a huge infrastructure to unite the country and its people. It is history, commentary, and adventure all wound into one.’

Rhys Jones previously fronted the travelogue  Slow Train Through Africa with Griff Rhys Jones

His new series will take eight weeks to film, starting this month..

Michael Portillo previously made Great Australian Railway Journeys, which is being screened on  Australia’s SBS channel later this year.
