Chris McCausland lands C4 travel show
Chris McCausland is to make a travel series for Channel 4, provisionally titled The Wonders Of The World I Can't See
In the four-part series, the comic, who is blind, visits major world landmarks with a celebrity guest. Each travelling companion will provide the stand-up with a humorous 'audio description' of their surroundings and try to prove there's more to visiting these places than just what they look like.
'Will they manage to convince him that it was worth getting off his couch after all?,' Channel 4 say.
McCausland said: 'I hate flying, don't function in the heat, and can't eat anything weird. If I'm honest, I just wanted to do Gogglebox. But thanks to Channel 4 for having more faith in me than I do.'
Locations and guests are yet to be announced, but Phil Harris, head of entertainment and live events at Channel 4: 'I'm excited to build on Chris's scene stealing appearances on The Last Leg and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown with this new adventure.
'We're proud to be the home of his first entertainment series and look forward to growing his presence on Channel 4.'
Commissioning editor Steve Handley added: 'Chris is an outstanding talent and I'm thrilled he's going on a romp across the globe for us. It promises to be both hilarious and heartfelt - proving that there is so much more to experience beyond what a famous place looks like.'
The commission, from programme-makers Open Mike Productions, comes as McCausland pilots a BBC TV show called What's In The Box? and a Radio 4 panel show based around sounds, called You Heard It Here First.
McCausland, who lost his sight gradually due to a genetic condition called retinitis pigmentosa, is currently on a 130-date national tour with his stand-up show Speaky Blinder.
