A poignant hour of stand-up...

The week's best live comedy

The week's best live comedy.

Monday December 30

MANCHESTER: Enjoy a great night of comedy before all the drunken insanity of New Year's Eve hits tomorrow with a very strong bill at the Comedy Store. Barry Castagnola, Christian Reilly, Jeff Innocent, The Noise Next Door and Andrew Ryan bring a wealth of stand-up experience to the stage. Tickets

Thursday January 2

LONDON: Alice Fraser reprises her breakthrough show, Savage, for a three-night run at the Soho Theatre. In this smart, ambitious and poignant hour, the Australian comic and podcaster (who you might know from The Bugle) recalls with insight and tenderness how she coped with her mother's illness. Read our original review here.

Friday January 3

LONDON: It's the first of the big-venue screenings of Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights in aid of Cancer Research at the Eventim Apollo. Series one will be shown tonight, and series to tomorrow night... or you can see them both in a Saturday matinee. The same timetable is repeated at the Manchester O2 Apollo next weekend.

Saturday January 4

MANCHESTER: Theo Von, the US comic known for podcasts such as This Past Weekend and The King and The Sting, starts a short UK tour with two nights at the Dancehouse Theatre.

LONDON: The very silly Raymond & Mr Timpkins Revue, fresh from being named the act of the year in the comedians' comedian awards, headline Headliners in Chiswick, with excellent support from Australia's fearlessly absurd Anne Edmonds.
