British comedy short Wet Fish scoops a Webby
British comic Toby Williams and directing duo Big Red Button have won a Webby Award, one of the leading accolades for internet content.
They won the award for the ‘weird’ category of best video for their short Wet Fish.
Williams said: ‘We are officially the weirdest thing on the internet. That’s something to be very proud of.’
Nick Borenstein, general manager of The Webby Awards said the team: ‘aren’t just shaping the Internet—they’re redefining it. This honour celebrates the fearless creativity and sharp execution that make their work an unmistakable force online.’
Actor Williams has performed on the stand-up circuit as George Ryegold, while Big Red Button is the collective name for film-makers Johnny Burns and Pier van Tijn.
The ubiquitous Skibidi Toilet won the people’s choice award in the same weird category.
Netflix won the comedy and stand-up section for their Netflix Is A Joke ‘Introducing’ series of stand-up clips.
Courtney Pauroso’s Vanessa 5000, released on the Dropout platform, won the people’s choice award in the same category.
Onion News Network won the separate comedy section with Very Important People, another Dropout series, winning people’s choice.
Best comedy podcast went to Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang with Office Ladies – featuring Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey from the US Office – winning the people’s choice category.
Jake Shane of the Tell Me What's Wrong! talk show was named best comedy creator and Chris Klemens the people's choice winner.
Winners were announced yesterday and will be honoured at the 29th Annual Webby Awards ceremony in New York City on May 12., hosted by comedian Ilana Glazer. Winners are only allowed a maximum for five word speeches
