‘I’m excited and terrified’

Chris Ramsey is to take part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

His appearance was announced on The One Show alongside footballer David James and EastEnders actor Emma Barton.

Ramsey told his Twitter followers: ‘I'll either be good, or so rubbish it'll be funny anyway. So - happy days.’

In a statement he added: ‘I'm both excited and absolutely terrified to be doing the show. You will not find me on the dance floor at parties, you will find me at the buffet table. All night. 

‘At my wedding I danced with my wife; that one song took about six months practice, and I definitely stood on her feet a couple of times. So I'm looking forward to the possibility of making a fool of myself in front of millions of people... there better be a buffet after the live shows.’

The series will give his profile a huge boost - but it could also backfire, as last year’s contestant Seann Walsh found.

The 17th series of Strictly is set to start in the autumn. Ramsey has already announced his biggest ever tour next year which will follow his appearance on the dancing contest, while he also has a special, Approval Needed, coming on Amazon Prime on August 19.
