Comedians who are head of the heard
Comedians Jason Manford, Matt Richardson and Jon Holmes have all been nominated for a top radio award.
They are up in the funniest show category of the Arias, the Audio and Radio Industry Awards, run by the Radio Academy.
Richardson said of his nomination, for his afternoon show on Virgin Radio: ‘I’ve never in my professional career been nominated for an award at something so industry leading with such amazing names. I’m gobsmacked.’
Manford is shortlisted for his weekend Absolute Radio show, while Jon Holmes is up for his Saturday show onBBC Radio Kent.
Also nominated fro the same award is the International New Year Comedy Celebration, a one-off stand-up showcase broadcast on the World Service and featuring Daliso Chaponda, Luisa Omielan, Jarred Christmas, Sindhu Vee, Yuriko Kotani, Radu Isac, Njambi McGrath and Orlando Baxter – all pictured above.
Rounding off the category are Radio 4’s Fortunately.. with Fi (Glover) and Jane (Garvey) and the Dave Berry show on Absolute Radio.
Meanwhile, Cariad Lloyd’s Griefcast, in which the comedian talks to guests about bereavement, has been nominated for best podcast
It is up against Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place; Double Bubble, which a prison drama about loan sharks; Table Manners with Jessie Ware; Sex Talk, which is made by the Prison Radio Association; and the NHS’s Health Uncovered.
Winners will be announced on October 18
