Idris Elba’s Sky One comedy In The Long Run has been named the best comedy on a digital channel.

The autobiographical 1980s-set series picked up the accolade at the Broadcast Digital Awards tonight.

It co-starred Bill Bailey as Bagpipes, the neighbour of Elba’s character Walter, and Jimmy Akingbola as his fun-loving brother Valentine.

 It had been shortlisted opposite BBC Three’s This Country, E4’s Chewing Gum, BBC Three’s Man Like Mobeem and Comedy Central’s Roast Battle UK

And Pls Like – the social media sitcom starring Liam Williams, Tim Key, Emma Sidi  and more, was named best short-form comedy.

A second series is already in the pipeline for BBC Three.

Also nominated were Comedy Central’s Absolutely Fine,  with Tom Rosenthal; Comedy Central’s Snapchat based shorts, Bad Snappers, with Georgie Fuller and Danni Jackson; How to Become TripAdvisor’s #1 Fake Restaurant, in which Oobah Butler  secured top rating for his shed; and BBC Three’s Romesh Talking to Comedians, with Romesh Ranganathan.

BBC Three was named best entertainment channel of the year, Love Island won best entertainment programme and the Beano website won the award for best digital children’s content.

The ceremony was hosted by Alex Horne and his band the Horne section,
