Cast announced for Simon Bird's first film
The cast of Simon Bird’s first movie has been announced, including Rob Brydon, Tamsin Greig, Prevenge’s Alice Lowe and W1A’s Monica Dolan.
Days of the Bagnold Summer is an adaptation of Joff Winterhart’s graphic novel about a shy 15-year-old heavy metal fan, forced to spend summer with his long-suffering single mother when his holiday plans are cancelled. The book won acclaim for the way it captured the ennui, tension and pathos of a mother-son relationship.
Nick Cave’s 18-year-old son Earl – who played Frodo in one episode of The End of the F***ing World last year – will take the lead role. Dolan – who won a Bafta for playing Rosemary West in Appropriate Adult and starred as communications officer Tracey Pritchard – is the mother,
Shooting is due to start this autumn, movie industry website Deadline reports, with the script written by author Lisa Owens, who is Bird’s wife.
Inbetweeners star Bird – a former Chortle Student Comedy Award finalist – previously directed the short Ernestine And Kit in 2015.
Days Of The Bagnold Summer is being produced by Matthew James Wilkinson, of Stigma Films, whose previous credits Kaleidoscope starring Toby Jones and Inseparable with Benedict Cumberbatch.
