Michael McIntyre attacked by hammer-wielding moped raiders
Masked moped riders have robbed Michael McIntyre, smashing the window of his Range Rover with a hammer and ripping a £15,000 Rolex from his wrist.
The comedian was left 'very shaken' after the attack, which happened when he was waiting outside his sons' school in Golders Green, North London, yesterday afternoon.
According to press reports, McIntyre fell out of the car and appeared to try to fight off the robbers.
One witness said he thought that the comedian’s son was in the car with him.
The passer-by told The Sun: ‘The guy at the front of the moped started to hit the driver’s window about ten to 15 times and it eventually just cracked. He opens the door and gets Michael McIntyre out of the car. Michael fell but he was still trying to put up a fight.’
The newspaper also posted a video of Mcintyre looking shell-shocked by his £120,000 Range Rover after the attack.
He and his wife Kitty have two sons, Lucas, 13, and Oscar, 10. They live in nearby Hampstead, and it’s thought the raiders were targeting the area because of its relative affluence.
The mugging is the latest in a spate of terrifying robberies by moped gangs in London.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘The victim was stationary in his car when two males on a moped smashed the car windows with a hammer before stealing property. No injuries were reported. No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue’.
McIntyre's publicist Gary Farrow told the BBC the star was 'fine' after the incident.
The comic is currently on his Big World Tour and is due to play Dublin’s 3 Arena this weekend, starting on Thursday.
