BBC orders all-black sketch show

Famalam picked up following 2017 pilot

The BBC has picked up all-black sketch show Famalam for four more episodes.

It follows the success of a pilot release in September last year and the full series will air on BBC Three’s iPlayer channel early next month, before being broadcast on BBC Two a few weeks later.

Characters in the series include thwarted Nigerian philanthropist Prince Alyusi, Croydon’s leading voodoo doctor Professor Lofuko, misunderstood superhero Eclispe, and never-satiated chicken-loving schoolboy Fat Sam.

Shane Allen, the BBC’s controller of comedy commissioning, says: ‘This exciting ensemble of comedy talent delivers their fresh and funny take on the multi-cultural Britain of today.

‘Although sketch shows will forever be reviewed as "hit and miss", they are a vital and crucial way to bring through the next wave of comedy stars and in Famalam we’ve got a supremely funny troupe."

BBC Three controller Damian Kavanagh, added: ‘i’m really pleased that Famalam is coming to BBC Three. It’s a great new take on the sketch show featuring fresh, new comedy voices and an array of brilliant new characters that I know our audience will love.’

The cast comprises Vivienne Acheampong, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Samson Kayo, John MacMillan,  Tom Moutchi and Roxanne Sternberg.
