The best of the week's live comedy

The best of the week's live comedy...

Monday September 4

LONDON: Pizza Express is turning its Holborn branch into a major live venue, with music, comedy and 'audience with' nights in a swankily kitted-out showroom. Its stand-up offering kicks off today with a fine line-up of Andrew Maxwell, Mike Gunn and Adam Bloom. Or wait a week and see Harry Hill there (though tickets for that are £35 compared to the £15 for tonight).

Tuesday September 5

LONDON: There's a more intimate gig for Harry Hill at the Half Moon in Putney tonight, for the Gits & Shiggles comedy night.

LONDON: It's the final of the English Comedian Of The Year at the Underbelly on the South Bank. The finalists, chosen at two semi-finals in Edinburgh, are Adam Rowe, Clayton Jones, Darius Davies, Elliot Steel, Lauren Pattison, Liam Withnail, Lou Conran, Nick Page, Radu Isac and Simon Lomas. The winner receives £1,000 plus a trip to Australia to perform at the Perth and Adelaide Fringe festivals.

Wednesday September 6

LONDON: The 100 Club on Oxford Street presents a 'pick of the Fringe' night - and they're not lying, with an impressive line-up that comprises Joseph Morpurgo, Mat Ewins, Rose Matafeo, Tim Key and Fin Taylor.

Thursday September 7

DURHAM: Canadian comedy stalwart Tom Stade swaggers on to the road following his Edinburgh run, kicking off his aptly named I Swear tour at the Gala Theatre tonight. Click here for the schedule.

Friday September 8

MAWNAN SMITH: This is surely the first time the Cornish village (population 1,539) has featured in Chortle's pick of the week. But it is the starting point for Mark Watson's MW tour, when the neurotic, smart and sometimes exasperated comic – currently on The Island with Bear Grylls – plays only venues or towns starting with an M or a W. There are a couple of cheats (Norwich Playhouse?) but not too many in a tour that also takes in the Mersey ferry, the train from Marylebone to (High) Wycombe and even a helicopter museum – chosen as it's in the double-point-scoring Middle Wallop. Schedule

SOUTH MOLTON: Comic, poet, improviser and TV stalwart, Phill Jupitus kicks off his new stand-up tour, Juplicity, in Devon.
