Rob Beckett to host BBC One singing show
Rob Beckett is to host a new singing talent show for BBC One.
The six-part series All Together Now will go out on Saturday nights next year – meaning a huge boost for the 31-year-old comic.
In each episode, a range of solo and group performers sing in front of The 100, a panel of great singers, either famous names or talented amateurs.
If any of the panel – described as a ‘tough crowd by producers – like what they hear, they stand up and join in. So each contestant's score is how many singers back them.
Beckett, a team captain on More 4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats, said: ‘If, like me, you’re the sort of person who likes to belt out a tune in the shower then I’m pretty sure this is the show for you.
‘If you’re the sort of person who likes to belt out a tune in the shower while another hundred people join in... then firstly, how big’s your bathroom? And secondly this is definitely the show for you!
'In my opinion, All Together Now is going to be the best thing to happen to Saturday night Saturday since they invented Sunday morning...and I could not be happier or more excited to be a part of it.'
The show will be filmed in Salford soon, and is made by Remarkable Television, who also make Pointless.
Boss James Fox said: ‘This isn’t the search for the next big pop act - instead we’re looking for performers from all kinds of musical backgrounds and with all levels of experience who think they can give that brilliant performance to get The 100 on their feet and singing along.’
BBC One has been looking for a singing show since losing The Voice to ITV. The channel launched Gary Barlow's Let It Shine in January, but it was coolly received and won’t be returning.
It is also working on a format called The Chart from Thames TV, who produce both The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent with Simon Cowell's Syco company for ITV.
