Lauren Pattison picks up Fringe accolade

Lauren Pattison has won a Herald Angel award for  her debut Edinburgh Fringe stand-up show, Lady Muck.

The Newcastle comic, who has previously been in the finals of the BBC New Comedy Award and Chortle Student Comedy Award, was awarded the accolade by the Glasgow Herald today.

She said: ‘After being an award losing comedian for so long I'm really chuffed to have won an award, especially for a show I've worked so hard on and that I'm incredibly proud of.

‘It's lovely to have your work recognised and I'm over the moon that people seem to like what I've made as much as I do.’

Her show, at the Pleasance, is about how she found her confidence and embraced her flaws following a  break-up.

Pattison is also in the running for the Amused Moose award, which will be given out tomorrow for the best show by a comedian with a relatively low profile.

A number of Angel awards are handed out each week of the Fringe by the Herald, spanning all categories of the festival programme and designed ‘to recognise excellence in Edinburgh’s cultural feast’.

Last week, Sophie Willan also won a Herald Angel award for her stand-up show Branded, about how she feels constantly judged by her working class background, by her gender, her fearless ambition, and her unapologetic ‘Northernness'.
