Strong And Stable to launch tomorrow

Some of Britain’s top satirists – including Rory Bremner, Jonathan Pie and Josie Long – are to launch a new podcast series to tie in with the general election.

Strong And Stable is to be hosted by David Schneider, whose credits include The Day Today, and will also feature LBC presenter James O’Brien and comic Bob Mills, a regular on The News Quiz, in its first episodes.

Schneider said: ‘They often say that laughter is the best medicine. Possibly the only medicine if the NHS cuts continue. Which is why I'm excited to do this podcast bringing together the worlds of politics and comedy in a way that hasn't been seen since the internet reacted to Diane Abbott's interview on police funding.

‘With many people finding this election as welcome as a hyperactive child sat behind you on a long-haul flight, the podcast gives me the chance to show some strong and stable leadership and spread the pre-Brexit LOLs as we invoke Laughtickle 50 (a joke which probably works better if you hear it on a podcast rather than read it).’

The first of four weekly episodes - two before and two after polling day - will be launched by streaming company Deezer tomorrow.

Their UK head of content, Roman Tagoe, said: ‘From "misspoken" moments on LBC and unfortunate campaign poster photoshoots, the relentless buzz of a general election has already provided a huge amount of laughs. Through partnering with a fantastic line-up of comedians, we want to bring these priceless moments to Deezer’s millions of users.’

Bremner will be providing a political monologue for the podcast and Pie – the creation of and co-writer Andrew Doyle – providing an election rant yet.
