Last Leg to air two-hour Jo Cox-inspired special
The Last Leg is to host a special two-hour edition to help remember murdered MP Jo Cox.
Channel 4’s topical comedy show will air on June 16, the first anniversary of the politician’s death.
It will kick off a weekend of UK-wide community events, street parties and picnics organised by the foundation set up in Cox’s name. The initiative, called The Great Get Together is designed to unite neighbours and ‘reject divisive politics’.
In the show – provisionally titled The Last Leg: ReUnited Kingdom –presenters Adam Hills, Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe will bring together famous political and showbusiness foes to get them to settle their high-profile disputes.
Channel 4’s head of entertainment and TV events Ed Havard, said: ‘We’re genuinely honoured to be joining forces with The Jo Cox Foundation. From the Paralympic Games to general elections, The Last Leg has used entertainment and comedy to address important issues.’
The show will come a week after a Last Leg special themed around the General Election results.
And as part of its support of The Great Get Together, Channel 4 will also screen a special edition of Sunday Brunch, offering street party recipe ideas.
Jo Cox’s widow Brendan thanked Channel 4 for its support, saying: ‘Jo loved a party and I’m delighted that Jo is being remembered in a way that both respects her deeply held conviction that we have more in common and captures her spirit of optimism and love.’
