Roseanne revival on the cards
Roseanne could be returning to TV.
All Hollywood’s major trade websites are reporting that a revival the 1990s sitcom is on the cards.
Titular star Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, who played her husband Dan, and Sara Gilbert, who played daughter Darlene, are all said to be on board.
Eight episodes are being touted around networks and streaming services, including Netflix.
The original series ran for nine seasons from 1989 to 1999, becoming the most watched TV show in the United States. It also starred Laurie Metcalf as Roseanne’s sister, Jackie, Michael Fishman as their son DJ and Sandra Bernhard as diner owner Nancy.
However the last series was panned after the Conner family won the lottery, breaking out of their working-class life. In the final episode it is revealed that the season was just a fiction created by Roseanne's character to cope with her life – and the death of Dan from a heart attack... which could cause issues if the writers of the new episodes are to remain true to that story.
Gilbert and Goodman staged a mini-reunion in March., briefly reprising their characters on daytime show The Talk.
When asked then if he'd be interested in a revival, Goodman said: ‘Oh, hell yes. The big ‘R’ and I did a pilot about five years ago that didn’t go anywhere.’
He added they were ‘very happy to work together’ and mused: ‘If we could get everyone together…"
