Mel and Sue pull out of Nightly Show

'Due to our busy schedule'

It seems that it’s not only viewers who are deserting The Nightly Show.

Now Mel and Sue have pulled out of ITV’s new primetime comedy and chat show amid weak ratings and poor reviews.

The former presenters of the Great British Bake Off appeared in industry promotional films for the series and were widely reported to have signed up.

But in a joint statement yesterday they said: ‘We were approached to take part in the series. However, due to our busy schedule we were unable to make the dates work. We do wish the team all the best with the remainder of the series.’

Davina McCall is due to present next week and Gordon Ramsey on  the week commencing March 27 – but no one has been confirmed for next week.

Currently being hosted by John Bishop, the show averaged 1.8million viewers last week, under David Walliams’s stewardship – down on the 2million the News At Ten achieved in the same slot.
