Workplace sitcom *is* rocket science...

Brett Goldstein has landed a regular role in a new US sitcom.

The British comic has been cast in Spaced Out, a new comedy for the NBC network from Scrubs and Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence.

Described as a ‘workplace comedy’, the show revolves around a working-class genius and his struggles to fit in with a team building a rocket to Mars.

Goldstein will play Leon Ness, described by Hollywood website Deadline as ‘the brilliant, eccentric and unpredictable founder of Space One — a man who dreams big and never gives up’.

Lawrence created Spaced Out with writer Adam Sztykiel, the same team behind Undateable, a sitcom that fan for three seasons on NBC from 2014 to 2016.

Last year Goldstein was cast in an HBO pilot vehicle for Whitney Cummings.

A Lot was described as a 'not-so romantic comedy' about a successful woman and her less successful boyfriend, to be played by Goldstein, who designs hand-drawn wallpaper. Nothing more has been heard of the show since last spring.

In 2015, Goldsmith starred in his first feature film, Superbob (Review) having made his breakthrough playing Tom in Ricky Gervais's Derek after a string of small TV roles.

Further significant roles include playing Casper in Nick Helm sitcom Uncle, Scott in E4's Drifters and and Danny in the David Hasselhoff vehicle Hoff The Record.
