Glasgow comedy fest launches its 2017 programme
The Glasgow comedy festival has launched its 2017 programme, featuring more than 470 shows over its 18 days.
Household names like Jimmy Carr, Al Murray, Stewart Lee, Russell Howard, Sue Perkins and Frankie Boyle all have shows, as well as longstanding festival favourites such as Bridget Christie, Richard Herring Josie Long, Simon Munnery and David O’Doherty.
Taggart star Alex Norton is making his stand-up debut with a show about his career from the Gorbals to Hollywood, working with Billy Connolly, Dudley Moore, Rowan Atkinson, Johnny Depp and Clint Eastwood. The actor, who plays DCI Matt Burke in the TV series, is at the Citizens Theatre on March 20.
The figure of 470 shows is almost 12 per cent higher than last year’s total, though still some way behind Leicester Comedy Festival, which boasts 770 events.
Events take place from March 9 to 26 at 50 venues, from the city’s biggest venues to Bob Slayer’s anarchic Blundabus pulling up at the Riverside Museum.
Glasgow City Council leader Frank McAveety called the programme ‘diverse, bold and packed with an eclectic mix of top performers from the UK and internationally.’
