Romesh Ranganathan to star in his own sitcom
Romesh Ranganathan is to record an autobiographical sitcom for Radio 2.
The show – also called Romesh – will charts the struggles of Romesh and his wife Kate as they try to get through life with two kids in Crawley.
Ranganathan is from the West Sussex town, but actually has three children with wife Lisa.
In the pilot episode of the new comedy, the couple are invited to their school reunion, where Romesh is forced to confront his old bully, Steve Johnson.
The trial episode will be recorded in front of a studio audience at the BBC Radio Theatre in London later this month.
It is the latest step in Ranganathan’s fast-escalating career.
Within three-and-a-half years of being nominated for best newcomer at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe, the comic has presented two series of his own travel show, Asian Provocateur, been a regular on Taskmaster, The Apprentice spin-off show You're Fired and co-presented ITV’’s It's Not Rocket Science - as well as doing the usual panel show rounds.
He recorded a pilot episode of a new topical comedy show for BBC Two, That’s It For The Week, last month – and has signed a book deal to write his memoirs. Last month, he was named the hardest-working comedian of 2016.
