BBC to air new Peter Kay's Car Share scene
The BBC is to broadcast a new sketch from Peter Kay’s Car Share.
A three-minute scene will air as part of a special edition of Peter Kay's Comedy Shuffle due to be broadcast on Christmas Eve.
The previous six episodes of the show have recycled old material from the comedian’s career, including his stand-up and Phoenix Nights. But the new episode will feature this new footage, in which Kay’s character John asks Sian Gibson’s Kayleigh why there are Christmas songs on the radio in the middle of the summer.
Kay has previously said it was hard to do a Christmas special of the show because of the difficulties of filming in winter.
He said: ‘People say why don't you do a Christmas special? The problem is it goes dark at half seven. You can't really drive around in the dark. It's really difficult to light the inside of the car, it's very boring and technical, but driving around in May and June it doesn't go dark until 10 o'clock at night so you can film until about 8 o'clock. And really, the whole show is set outdoors, but in a car, so we need as much daylight as we can get.’
The comedian revealed the new scene at charity Q&A session earlier this month.
Car Share, which has won two Bafta awards, is set to return for a full series in May,
Meanwhile, the Christmas Comedy Shuffle, which airs at 10.05pm on December 24, will also feature Sir Paul McCartney in footage from Kay’s 2008 talent show spoof Britain's Got the Pop Factor... and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice.
