Saturday Night Live should be shut down
Long-running American comedy show Saturday Night Live is part of the media ‘rigging’ the American Presidential election and should be axed, Donald Trump has claimed.
The divisive candidate, who has changed his triumphalist tone to one of conspiracy theorist since slumping in the polls, was again mocked on the show last night.
Alec Baldwin reprised his role as the millionaire in a recreation of the second presidential debate with Hillary Clinton portrayed by Kate McKinnon
But Trump was not amused
‘Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me,’ he said on Twitter. ‘Time to drop the boring and unfunny show. Alec Baldwin portrayal stinks. Media rigging election!’
Trump his been parodied countless times on the show and guest hosted it for the second time last November. At the time, he said he had an ‘amazing evening’ on the show.
Unsurprisingly, Clinton has declared herself a big fan of Baldwin’s Trump saying: ‘His look, his scowling, his stating down and then muttering his responses. It was perfect.’
Baldwin’s impersonation has proved a boon to the show, which has been soaring in the ratings. This season’s premier was the highest since 2008,when his 30 Rock co-star Tina Fey unveiled her Sarah Palin.
And independent observers have enjoyed the mimickry more than the thin-skinned Republican. The New York Times said Baldwin was ‘the perfect Donald Trump’ and Elle magazine called last night’s skit a ‘fantastic spoof’
