A home with some Pryor history...
• 'It's ridiculous to think I would write a piece of work so only the cool people can enjoy it. I would like to be as mainstream as possible.' Richard Gadd, whose Edinburgh Comedy Award winning show opened with footage of him vomiting.
• The estate agent's blurb gushes about the six-bedroom Spanish-style home, with its 2.2 acres of 'lush manicured grounds'. 'This oasis of calm and luxury living is truly a home of dreams,' they enthuse. And there's a celebrity link. The compound in San Fernando Valley, on sale at $2.75 million, is where Richard Pryor made his home. No mention here – or in this newspaper article about the sale – that it was the house where he set himself alight after days of freebasing cocaine. On June 9, 1980, he poured cognac over himself and lit it. While ablaze, he leapt out of the window and ran through the neighbourhood staggering around for several minutes while his clothes melted into his skin and his flesh bubbled and blistered, until two policemen subdued him. 'An oasis of calm' indeed.
• Chris Rock's deal to make two new stand-up specials for Netflix is worth $40 million, it has been reported. The on-demand giant outbid Amazon, Hulu, and HBO for the rights.
• Dapper Laughs is to live-stream his girlfriend's pregnancy on Snapchat. 'I've had to decide whether to let my fans in on this part of my life. But we discussed it and agreed that we'd introduce that Shelley was pregnant and then take them through the whole process,' he told Daily Star. 'Probably not the actual baby coming out of the vagina, though.'
• Comedian David Gersch has been ticked off by Mexican fast food chain Chipotle… after randomly telling people they had won free meals. The stand-up had taken to grabbing business cards out of the prize draw bowls each outlet has on its counters, then ringing up the 'winner' while on stage, posing as a Chipotle worker relaying the good news. Though he never got to see the payoff when they tried to claim the free food, he says 'it's all positive and fun' – and has heard of some successes, with the chain apparently honouring the bogus wins. Someone called Danny got a free burrito and another called Tim scored 10 freebies for his entire team working at Nike. Chipotle got wind of the incident and called him for a meeting at their London headquarters. 'We agreed I will stop impersonating Chipotle staff and pranking people with free burritos,' he told Chortle. 'But I didn't promise not to claim I'm from Chilangos or Yo! Sushi…' Chipotle have not responded to a request for comment.
• Ross Noble was approached to take part in Bear Grylls Celebrity Island, but turned it down saying it wasn't really his thing.
• Russell Brand has admitted he stole money from people's letters to buy drugs when he was a postman. The comic – who held down the Royal Mail job for just three weeks – made the confession on The Jonathan Ross Show, saying: 'I feel bad about it now.' But the Royal Mail are not happy, saying they have a 'zero tolerance approach to any dishonesty,' and pointing out that it's a criminal offence to tamper with or delay the delivery of mail.'
• Australian comedian Joel Creasey has revealed he cheated to pass the eyesight test to get his driving licence. He said: 'I walked into the licensing centre, I realised I'd forgotten my glasses and knew I was going to fail the eye test. I had about five minutes to wait in line so I took a photo of it [the test] and memorised the letters.'
