Unheard Bill Hicks material to be released
Previously unheard Bill Hicks routines are to be released for the first time, as his entire back catalogue is reissued.
A studio album of previously unreleased audio tracks will be available in October, following the release of all his videos as a box set and via on-demand services.
In addition, a Hicks special will be shown in US cinemas on one night only – April 27 – comprising his Relentless show, filmed at the Montreal International Comedy Festival in 1991, and never-before-seen footage.
The activity comes after the Comedy Dynamics label secured the rights to release the material, with the cooperation of the Hicks estate.
‘After many months of hard work and dedication, we couldn't be more humbled to assume control of the Bill Hicks catalogue,’ said the company’s president of production, Brian Volk-Weiss.
‘Bill Hicks is one of the most important stand-up comedians to have walked this planet. The duty to expose him to a new generation of comedy fans is a true honour, we'll do him proud.’
Hicks only released two albums in his lifetime: Dangerous in 1990 and Relentless. However since his 1994 death at the age of 32, six further albums and two compilation albums have been put out.
The DVD box set will be released on August 18; the album of unreleased audio on October 27.
