The Vicar of Dibley is first class!
The Royal Mail is to issue 12 stamps celebrating The Vicar of Dibley.
There are two second-class designs, one featuring Dawn French’s Geraldine officiating at the wedding of Emma Chambers’s dotty verger Alice and James Fleet’s Hugo; the second showing Geraldine trying to force a smile from Hugo’s domineering father David (Gary Waldhorn).
First-class options show Geraldine attempting to tell Alice a joke in the vestry, or the vicar plunging into a ridiculously deep puddle (top)
A further four first-class stamps, presented in a miniature sheet, shows a Dibley Parish Council meeting.
The release, on January 14, come after the show – created by writers Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer – celebrated its 30th birthday in November.
David Gold, director of external affairs and policy at Royal Mail said: 'The superb writing and the warmth and idiosyncrasies of its characters made The Vicar of Dibley one of the most loved TV comedies of all time. We celebrate the series with new stamps revisiting some of the show’s classic moments.’
There are also two £1 stamps: Frank (John Bluthal) and Owen (Roger Lloyd Pack) performing in the Dibley Christmas show, and Jim (Trevor Peacock) writing his ‘no, no, no’ catchphrase on a card.
On the £2.80 stamps, Geraldine samples one of Letitia’s (Liz Smith's) unusual sandwich creations and performs a ballet with Dame Darcey Bussell.
The stamps, and a range of collectible products, are available to order from today here.
