French and Saunders reunite on The Masked Singer
Comedy duo become guest panellists
French and Saunders are reuniting – as panellists on The Masked Singer.
The duo will both appear on the special Boxing Day edition of the ITV1 show, hosted by Joel Dommett.
They will be joining regulars Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall as they try to figure out which celebrities are behind elaborate costumes such as Star, Turkey Crown, Nutcracker and Christmas Cracker.
Dawn French said: ‘Any rivalry between Jen and I on this show will NOT be friendly… We love each other but a competition is a competition and I will take that beatch down with no mercy.
‘My guesses will no doubt be frighteningly accurate. I have little to no interest in the other guesses. I’m not feeling quietly confident. I’m feeling loudly and proudly confident!’
Meanwhile, Jennifer Saunders – who has appeared on the panel before – admitted: ‘Dawn is far more up to date with the Who’s Who of showbiz so I’m hoping she’ll be giving me some suggestions. My biggest fear is not recognising the celebrity who does actually have to "Take it off!!" I’m hoping we will work as a team.’
The Ab Fab creator has previously said that if she was to be on the show her preferred costume would be a ‘Christmas Pudding smothered in brandy and set alight on stage and singing Disco Inferno accompanied by a jug of cream’.
Although it has been 19 years since their sketch show last aired on the BBC, French and Saunders continue to work together regularly, including starring in writer David Quantick’s Radio 4 comedy Whatever Happened To Baby Jane Austen?
The Masked Singer Christmas Special is on ITV1 at 7.30pm on Boxing Day.
