Speak up! Comic takes a lesson in shouting
As he's a former Chortle Award winner for best compere, you might think John Robins is used to commanding a room.
Yet the comic has revealed he's taking shouting lessons.
He has been seeing a vocal coach 'because when I go on stage with my piercing satire and I get high-voiced, I lose my voice' he told listeners to his Radio X show with Elis James.
'So we're beginning a process of teaching me to shout. There's too much tension in my neck and shoulders and diaphragm. And stomach and mind.'
Attributing this to 'just bad vibes', he disclosed how 'I went to a sort of room in North London and we walked around and swung our arms … shaking our hands.'
However, with the Edinburgh Fringe imminent, he's about to undergo 'intensive training'. Because the course is otherwise somewhat slow.
'No, we didn't do any shouting because I'm not ready yet … when she's teaching her actors, she won't get onto shouting till the second year.'
