Comic also reveals his marriage broke down

Comedian Kevin Bishop has revealed his struggles with alcoholism, and told how he has split from his wife of 19 years.

The star of the Porridge remake, Star Stories and his own sketch show admitted: ‘I’m an alcoholic. I’ve got an allergy to alcohol so whenever I drink, I have a phenomenon of craving that kicks in, and I can't stop. If I went for a pint with an actor in Covent Garden, I would then go on the missing list.’

He told how he sought out Alcoholics Anonymous when the family moved to Los Angeles with his family after he landed a role in the series Super Fun Night alongside Rebel Wilson.

Speaking to Lisa Snowdon on her We're Not Getting Any Younger podcast, Bishop said he got sober for five years ‘and then my wife missed her drinking buddy and encouraged me to drink again, she said I wasn't an alcoholic. 

‘Then within 21 months everything fell apart.’

Bishop, 44, married Casta in 2006 and they have two daughters together.
