Gilded Balloon picks its charity partner

'Pink Wednesday' to aid Scotland's Equality Network

Edinburgh’s Gilded Balloon venue has named a new charity partner for their Pink Wednesday promotion during the   Fringe.

The promotional day takes place on the second Wednesday of the festival, traditionally known as ‘black Wednesday’ as ticket sales struggle after opening deals expire.

However, since 2018 the Gilded Balloon has been offering a £5 ticket deal that day. And this year a percentage of ticket sales will be donated to Equality Network to support LGBTI+ activism in Scotland.

The charity will also be collecting donations on the day, while Fringe-goers can donate to  the charity throughout the month of August at Gilded Balloon.

Katy and Karen Koren, the mother-and-daughter team who run the venue, said in a statement: ‘We’re proud of our diverse roster of shows this year and look forward to working closely with the Equality Network to further our support of the LGBTI+ community within the arts.’

Tim Hopkins, director of the Equality Network, said: ‘We are happy and excited to be partnering with Gilded Balloon during the Festival this year. As always, they have a great range of shows, and we hope that everyone who supports LGBTI+ equality will go along and see some of them, and take advantage of the Pink Wednesday discount.’

‘Things can seem pretty tough for LGBTI+ people right now, here and around the world, so please come along, have a fun day, and support our work.’
