The Shark Is Broken heads to Broadway

New York run for the comedy about the making of Jaws

The Shark Is Broken, the stage comedy set during the making of Jaws, is heading to Broadway.

The show, which was nominated for an Olivier Award during its West End Run, was co-written Ian Shaw – who plays his father Robert Shaw.

It imagines what happened on board The Orca when the cameras stopped rolling during the filming of Stephen Spielberg’s 1975 blockbuster. Robert Shaw played shark-hunter Quint, alongside Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss – who are the other characters in the play.

The Shark Is Broken will now begin a 16-week engagement on July 25, at New York’s John Golden Theatre, with the rest of the casting yet to be announced.

Having started life at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe, the show transferred to London’s Ambassadors Theatre in 2021. Shaw  wrote it with Joseph Nixon, and it is directed by Guy Masterson
