Mark Heap joins ITVX's Significant Other

A host of actors including Friday Night Dinner's Mark Heap have joined the cast of ITVX’s new comedy-drama, Significant Other.

They will appear alongside the leads Katherine Parkinson and Youssef Kerkour in the show about an ‘unromantic romance of two people – Anna and Sam – whose drastic first meeting turns their lives around’.

Also joining the ensemble is former Eternal singer Kéllé Bryan as Sam’s estate wife Shelley, as well Ben Bailey Smith – who performs comedy as Doc Brown –  Sue Vincent from Alma’s Not Normal; Shaun Williamson from EastEnders and Extras; The Thick of It’s Olivia Poulet and The Tunnel’s Will Ash.

The series, adapted from an Israeli series of the same name, is currently filming in Manchester and will air on ITV’s new streaming platform next year.

According to programme-makers Quay Street Productions the two main characters ‘are not your conventional soulmates; Anna, who has given up on love, is defensive and closed off, and Sam, a newly separated father-of-two, is reactive and emotionally vulnerable.

‘But as this strange love story unfolds with wryly observed wit and warmth, could these deeply flawed individuals influence each other for the better?’
