Leicester Comedy Festival announces first shows of 2023

Including Stewart Lee, Sophie Duker and Hal Cruttenden

The first shows have gone on sale for next year’s Leicester Comedy Festival.

They include shows from Stewart Lee, Sophie Duker, Hal Cruttenden, Fern Brady, Mike Wozniak, Jimeoin and more.

Also returning for the festival – now in its 30th year – are the gala preview show on January 6 and The UK Pun Championships on February 13, both at De Montfort Hall.

It is also the fifth year of the simultaneous UK Kids’ Comedy Festival, which is having its first-ever preview show at the Y Theatre on December 18.

Today also marks the opening day for artists, promoters and venues to register their shows for the festival.

Founder Geoff Rowe – who will e stepping down from his role at the end of the festival – said: ‘I’m delighted to be announcing our two festivals today and give the first glimpse of what is going to be an amazing time in February.

‘Leicester Comedy Festival has grown enormously since we set it up in 1994, and I’m enormously proud that we will be celebrating the festival’s 30th anniversary.

‘We will welcome hundreds of comedians to perform on many stages, and a massive audience who will be able to enjoy some of the best of British comedy.

‘I’d like to thank everyone who works so hard to pull our festivals together. There is a huge community of promoters, performers, venues, volunteers, community groups, businesses and many more people without whom the festivals wouldn’t continue to be so amazing. We look forward to seeing you all in February.’

Other comedians confirmed to appear include Mike Bubbins, Rob Auton, Chloe Petts, Fin Taylor, Babatunde Aleshe, Eshaan Akbar, Jacob Hawley, and Tom Ward.
