Melbourne Comedy Festival announces its 2022 newcomer nominees
The nominees have been announced for best newcomer at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
They are:
- Bronwyn Kuss: Any Goss?
- Frankie McNair: Relax Your Knees
- Mish Wittrup: Soy Fat White
- Steph Broadbridge: Hot Chick/Tired Mum
- Will McKenna: Appellation
- Sunanda Loves Britney
The award is open to any Australian or New Zealand act doing their first full show at the festival.
Winners will be announced at a lunchtime ceremony on Saturday, along with the award for most outstanding show.
In the running for that are
- Aaron Chen: If It Weren’t Filmed Nobody Would Believe
- Cameron James: Electric Dreams
- Danielle Walker: Nostalgia
- Geraldine Quinn: Broad
- Greg Larsen: We All Have Bloody Thoughts
- Laura Davis: If This Is It
- Rhys Nicholson: Rhys! Rhys! Rhys
Other awards to be handed out include the Piece Of Wood – the comedians’ comedian award which is a literal piece of wood, and the Golden Gibbo, given to artistically creative local independent productions in memory of the late, great Lynda Gibson.
Nominee for the latter have been named as Mel & Sam, Maria Angelico, Geraldine Quinn, Ashley Apap, Aiden Willcox, Ross Purdy and Alex Hines.
