BBC seeks new comedy shorts

Up to 20 Life Lessons sketches to be commissioned

The BBC has revealed more details of its  Laugh Lessons initiative to make more short comedy films.

Commissioners will order up to 20 sketches aimed at 16-24 year olds as part of its Laugh Lesson strand.

The Corporation said: ‘Topics we’re interested in include areas such as climate change, love and dating, politics, health, sexuality and sexual identity, living situations, friendship, holidays, family, school, university, jobs and money. We want to see boldness and innovation in the execution.’

Plans for the series, to air on iPlayer, were announced earlier this week as the BBC revealed it was launching a Comedy Association to nurture grassroots talents.

Production companies are now being invited to pitch ideas to BBC3Comedy.Applications@bbc.co.uk

The proposal should include a list of five new or up-and-coming comedians that firms would like to work with, and at least three ideas from each of them.

The BBC said: ‘The scheme is not exclusive to companies with a comedy track record, but previous experience delivering high quality digital content and managing performing talent is required. Please include any relevant experience in your application.’
