Steve Coogan misses out on a BIFA gong

Stan and Ollie goes home empty-handed from awards bash

Steve Coogan has missed out on a best actor award for his portrayal of Stan Laurel.

He had been nominated at tonight’s  British Independent Film Awards, but the gong went to Joe Cole for playing an English boxer in a Thai prison in  A Prayer Before Dawn.

Stan & Ollie had been nominated for six awards – including Nina Arianda for best supporting actress for playing Stan’s wife, Ida Kitaeva Laurel – but went away with none.

Maxine Peake also lost out in the best actress category, She had been shortlisted for her leading role as a comedian on the Northern England working men’s club circuit in Funny Cow – but lost out to Olivia Colman, winning her fourth BIFA award for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite.
