£10k comedy competition to be streamed live
The battle for the biggest prize in comedy is to be streamed live on the internet, it has been announced.
On Sunday, Alistair Williams, Charmian Hughes, Karen Bayley, Luke Toulson, Mark Simmons, Nick Page, Simon Lomas, Tim Clark and Tom Glover will vie to win the £10,001 first prize in the Petfringe Comedian Of The Year competition.
The final takes place at Leconfield Hall in the village of Petworth, West Sussex, with an anonymous donor stumping up the prize purse – £1 more that the Edinburgh Comedy Award.
Organisers will be streaming the gig live on YouTube and Facebook, and embedding the video into their own website, from 7pm.
The competition was open to any comedian of any standing, and a total of 876 acts entered.
Organiser Andy Stedman said the emphasis was on ten-minute sets that entertain ‘normal people on a night out’ rather than the more artistic ambitions of Fringe shows.
