Honorary degree for Phil Differ
Comedy writer and performer Phil Differ has received an honorary degree from Glasgow Caledonian University.
He was awarded Doctor of Letters in recognition of his ‘outstanding contribution to the world of television scriptwriting and his commitment to GCU students’.
Receiving the degree, he said: ‘I am so proud, so humbled by this. This is a day I will never forget. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.’
Differ has worked with the cream of Scottish comedy talent including Rikki Fulton, Gregor Fisher, Elaine C. Smith, Craig Ferguson, and Robbie Coltrane.
He began his comedy career as a writer providing gags and sketches for such shows as Not the Nine O’Clock News and Spitting Image before becoming a producer where his credits include Naked Video, Rab C. Nesbitt, Scotch And Wry, Chewin’ the Fat and Still Game.
Earlier this week, Annie Lennox was installed as the fifth Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University.
