Wales of laughter...
North Wales is getting a new comedy festival, attached to an industry conference.
The two-day Craft of Comedy writers’ event has spawned a week-long fringe, to be headlined by a recording of Radio 4’s Dead Ringers.
Jon Culshaw, Debra Stephenson and Jan Ravens will be recording the topical show at Venue Cymru in Llandudno on June14 as part of the Craft of Comedy UK Fringe.
The other fringe events will be held at the town’s Tabernacle venue from June 15 to 19 with comics including Mark Watson, Marcus Brigstocke, Robin Ince, Mrs Barbara Nice, Kiri Pritchard-McLean and Neil Innes.
It is a spin-off from Craft of Comedy UK, a two-day comedy writing conference whose guests this year will include Al Murray, Radio 4 comedy commissioner Sioned Wiliam, Philomena Cunk writers Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris, and members of the BBC Writers’ Room.
Artistic director Steve Doherty said: ‘We’re so excited to be able to bring such a wide variety of comedy, from the vintage daftness of Neil Innes to the contemporary daftness of Mrs Barbara Nice. I’m really looking forward to welcoming audiences of all ages to this small, but beautifully formed, festival.’
