Early Doors star Phil Mealey becomes radio presenter

New slot on BBC Radio Manchester

Early Doors star and writer Phil Mealy is to become a radio presenter.

The actor – who created the pub-based sitcom with his co-star Craig Crash, is fronting a new show on BBC Radio Manchester from tomorrow.

He also co-wrote some episodes of The Royle Family with Cash and Caroline Aherne.

Mealy will be hosting the  2pm to 6pm slot with BBC Introducing’s Natalie-Eve Williams from now until July 28.

Kate Squire, managing editor of BBC Radio Manchester,  praised the actor’s ‘warm wit’, telling Radio Today that he is ‘a legend in Manchester’ because of Early Doors.

The comedy is to be revived as a stage play at The Lowry Theatre in Salford from August.
