Shooting starts on Country Music comedy-drama film
Filming has stared on a new comedy-drama film about an ex-con who wants to make it as a country singer.
In Country Music, Jessie Buckley (pictured in her role in Taboo) plays mother-of-two Rose-Lynn Harlan, who hopes music will allow her to escape her life in Glasgow. Julie Walters plays her mother.
Sophie Okonedo, of Hotel Rwanda fame, has also joined the cast as the middle-class woman who employs Rose-Lynn as a cleaner.
Bafta nominee Tom Harper (Peaky Blinders) is directing a script by Nicole Taylor (The C Word, Three Girls), described as being ‘about mothers and daughters, dreams and reality, and three chords and the truth’.
Producer Faye Ward said: ‘Nicole Taylor has written a cracking script, full of energy and charm. Her witty dialogue will have you in stitches but at its heart, this is a moving, universal story about roots and dreams. Jessie Buckley is a revelation in the lead role and I can’t wait for audiences to hear her sing.’
Rose-Lynn’s band is led by folk musician Neill McColl, and features other Scottish music figures Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, as well as Radio 2’s Whispering" Bob Harris,
Funded by the BFI and Creative Scotland with National Lottery money and Film4, Country Music is being filmed in Glasgow and Nashville, Tennessee,
