Andy leads the Field
Andy Field has won the fourth heat of this year’s BBC New Comedy Award.
The comedian, who won the Chortle Student Comedy Award in 2015, landed a place in the semi-final with a series of surreal one-liners, delivered in a distracted, stoner style.
He joins previous heat winners Ophélie Hocquard, Huge Davies and Aaron Simmonds in the next round, which takes place at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Yumna Mohamed, whose stand-up revolves around her life as a single Muslim woman in her thirties, and Jamie MacDonald, a blind comedian, were named runners-up at the event, held at the Manchester Comedy Store. They also stand a chance of securing wildcard places in the semis.
The heats were recorded earlier in the month and are being aired on Radio 4 Extra every Friday night.
Previous winners of the BBC competition include Nina Conti, Rhod Gilbert, Alan Carr and Lucy Beaumont. See a list of all the previous winners and finalists here.
